Off the Clock

Outside of work, I pursue interests that keep me curious, challenged, and grounded. Trail running and Spartan racing test my limits outdoors. Raspberry Pi projects satisfy my love of building things. Piano pushes me into genuinely unfamiliar territory. And cooking gives me a way to bring something new to the table - literally!

ENDURANCE SPORTS

Trail running fuels my love of the outdoors and builds the mental toughness needed to push through difficult terrain. Functional strength training keeps my body resilient and stable year-round. Together they prepare me for Spartan obstacle course racing where endurance, strength, and adaptability are put to the test. Reaching the finish line makes it all worth it!

RASPBERRY PI

Working with Raspberry Pi gives me a hands-on way to explore technology and build things that I actually use. Projects have ranged from a retro arcade cabinet to a network-based ad blocker. Along the way I've honed my skills in Linux, open-source tooling, IoT hardware, and even some basic carpentry skills I never thought I would need.

PIANO

In 2024, with no musical background whatsoever, I started piano lessons purely to challenge myself with something unfamiliar. I've since learned music theory fundamentals, can read sheet music, and have performed duets with my instructor. Outside of traditional lessons, the PianoVision app running on my VR headset enables me to play complex pieces by overlaying color-coded cues onto the keys in real time. These are pieces that would have taken me years to master on my own.

COOKING

What started as pandemic-era experimentation with meal kit services turned into a genuine passion for cooking from scratch. Today I gravitate toward bold, layered flavors and enjoy experimenting with new ingredients and techniques. Nothing beats the satisfaction of surprising my family with a new dish and sharing a good meal at home.
